Property Taxes

When you buy a house, the appraised value for the following year may be the price you paid if 1) it was an arm's length transaction and 2) other neighborhood factors support the sales price. For further information on taxes, go to the Harris County Appraisal District web site.

These calculations are a guide to property taxes and might be on the high side for the first year or two. But appraised values may rise 10% per year if sales data support the increase. Texas does not have a personal income tax but as you can see, property taxes are very high, primarily due to the strong increase in appraised values over the last decade.
