County began releasing redrawn flood plain maps using technology
called LiDAR, or light detection and ranging, to define the ground
surface. Specially equipped aircraft have flown over the county in a tight
grid, bouncing millions of laser signals off the ground to measure
elevations. Computers then translated the data into images. Follow this link and click on Interactive Mapping Tool to see if a property is in a flood plain, either 100 or 500-year: http://www.tsarp.org RISK 100-Year Flood Plain: 1% chance of being flooded in any given year; 26% chance of flooding during a 30-year period 500-Year Flood Plain: 0.2% chance of being flooded in any given year; 6% chance of flooding during a 30-year period Please note that localized street flooding can happen anywhere in a heavy rain, not only in the 100 and 500-year flood plains. Flood insurance for rising water damage is available to anyone who wishes to buy it. |
