Redevelopment of the MEMORIAL PARK
area's housing with high-end single-family, patio home and townhome properties has
overtaken this area, once the home of artists and working-class families. The 1,500-acre
park is Houston's largest with an 18-hole golf course, tennis center, swimming pool,
picnic grounds, softball fields, hiking and biking paths, and Arboretum.
One of Houston most interesting neighborhoods is OLD SIXTH WARD,
a newly protected (Sept 2007) historic district developed in the
late 1800s just south of Washington Avenue. It is a unique neighborhood
in Houston and well worth considering if you love historic preservation.
And if you work downtown, you could walk to work. It will likely become
a showcase neighborhood in years to come.
